Talking Wild: Join Hanna-Kaisa Korolainen & Maria Ollikainen on 11 July

Who looks, who is looked at — and what is the actual role the model plays in all of this?

On Saturday, 11 July, 4–6 pm, you are welcome to join artist Hanna-Kaisa Korolainen and art historian Maria Ollikainen for a conversation at Gallery Loisti as part of the exhibition Wild at Birth.

In this discussion, Korolainen and Ollikainen dig into the ideas driving the exhibition: the power of the gaze, and how the beauty ideals shaped by the Pre-Raphaelites still echo in the 2020s.

The exhibition and the session touch both the art history and the present, Jane Morris, Fanny Cornforth, and Alexa Wilding who modelled for the famous Pre-Raphaelite artworks, to the question of roles of the model and the artist in the creations of art.

Welcome to look closer at how Korolainen's furry, brushed surfaces let these figures loose from the positions that once were assigned to them.
